Overdose of New Music
Over the past week, I picked up quite a lot of music. Here’s a glimpse.
Norah Jones • Not Too Late
That voice. Just listen to the ease and calm of that voice of Norah Jones. For Hawaii residents, look out at that dismal, blustery weather, brew up the good stuff, play the tracks from Not Too Late, and be glad you’re indoors.
No wonder this CD is the best seller for on-line retailers like Amazon and the iTunes Store. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
2007 Grammy Nominees
A compliation of solid picks. Not necessarily the popular mainstream stuff you hear on the radio, but a good mix of music. And you can’t beat the $9.99 price tag for 23 tracks.
I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Sarah Brightman • Diva: The Singles Collection
A collection of her popular hits. Not quite what I was looking for though. I prefer her upbeat and techno style like with Harem or Free.
Give it 3 out of 5 stars.
Ultra Dance, Vol. 8
Disappointing. I didn’t like this collection. The Ultra series has been good to me before so I figured this one would be good too. Some gems in the 2 CD set but overall, I didn’t like the syncopating style of the music.
I’d recommend Thrivemix, Vol. 1: Mixed by Mike Rizzo and St. John

Windward Mall Has a Pulse
Beep… beep… beep. Windward Mall actually has a pulse and is not dead yet. Massive renovations were planned and are almost complete giving this deathtrap a new chance at life.
Notable new additions include d.e.m.o., Lids, Sanrio, Journeys, Cinnamon Girl, and Clearwire. Don’t forget Ruby Tuesdays is already there, Farrell’s is open for business, and IHOP opens next week.
The Mall is getting another boost with the coming of a full sized Borders featuring a Starbucks cafe. At last, the only mall in Hawaii without a Starbucks is joining the caffeine addicted.
On-line Advanced Placement Courses?
Don’t know how well or how effective taking AP courses on-line will be but nonetheless, it’s an interesting move. I never did take a real course on-line, just sat through essentially PowerPoint slides on-line so I’m not one to know about on-line classes.
Do you still have to ask for permission to go to the bathroom?
Harry Potter Nakid!
In a move to shake up his image, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe strips his wizard cloak for the London-based play called Equus. Here’s a promotional picture from Equus showing Daniel cavorting with Gandalf’s stud, Shadowfax.
With the Harry Potter series headed towards its final installment with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the end of the movie series is obviously in sight. I guess Daniel wants to show off his repertoire for future acting roles.
Judging by the mature theme of this play, Daniel should remake some of his previous works. You know stuff like Harry’s Putter in the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Ass-KABAAM!!

Wow! Vista is Here!
The long awaited Microsoft operating system, Windows Vista, launches tomorrow, January 30. It’s been five years since Microsoft released a new OS, and Microsoft is so confident that users will like Vista that it is asking them to show us your Wow.
My Wow contribution would be, “Wow! There’s a lot of versions of Vista available. Which one is for me?” There’s the Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, and Limited Bill Gates Signature Edition of Vista to sort through, and don’t forget the upgrade versions are available as well. Are any of these Mac compatible?
My other Wow contribution would be, “Wow! How come the Chief of Windows at Microsoft, Jim Allchin, is retiring a few days after Vista releases?”
