Pulpconnection Prize Pack
From sponsor donations and collecting other stuff, I’ve managed to build up a Pulpconnection Prize Pack. So far in the prize pack are Aveda shampoo and conditioner from Elements Hawaii (now featuring virtual tours of their location), a VIP card to Club 939 that gets you in free (just once though), and a $5 gift card for Starbucks. I’ll even throw in a song or two from the iTunes Music Store or even a personalized single from Jessica Simpson!
More things could make it into the prize pack if I can find stuff (donations welcome!).
Now what contest should I have to give away the Pulpconnection Prize Pack?

Zune Zune Zune
Microsoft has finally made it official. They’re going up against Apple with their own brand of iPod killer termed Project Zune. Details are very sparse right now, but Zune is a “family of hardware and software products” that’ll provide “great opportunity to bring together technology and community to allow consumers to explore and discover music together.”
Stay zuned.
"The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs" Blog
If you’re an Apple fan and know a little bit about the idiosyncrasies and attitude of Steve Jobs, then check out this hilarious (and unofficial) blog called “The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs.” Just look at this excerpt about Vista and OS X:
I set up a meeting with Gates and I’m like, Dude, I’ve got OS X working on an Intel processor. Why don’t you just drop this piece of crap Vista code base and just roll over to OS X? Forget the OS business and move up the stack into ERP apps or whatever. I mean, I’ve got it right here, Unix based, solid as a friggin rock, nice user interface, all wrapped up with a bow on it, I’ve even ported it to Intel for you, I mean what more do I have to do? It’s like I’m teetering next to you at the bar in my miniskirt and high heels and opening one button after another on my blouse and telling you, Dude, I am soooooo wasted, let’s go to your place and take some Roofies — and you just don’t friggin get it!
Or this one about Apple’s recent financial success:
We are sooo friggin hot right now. We’re like the Michael Jordan of business. Nothing but net. Hey, Michael Dell, how you guys doing down there in Buttfriggerville? Huh? What’s that? I can’t hear you. Watchoo say, boy?
Funny stuff! Along the lines of Memoirs of a Monster by Darth Vader.

Nike+iPod Getting Good Reviews
As testing and tryouts of the Nike+iPod Sports Kit go on, more positive reviews are surfacing. The latest come from venerable Walt Mossberg (and sprinting assistant Katie) and Time magazine.
Walt gives a good review of just how the system works and describes his experiences using the Sports Kit. He also talks about the NikePlus.com website to track your stats, challenge yourself and your friends. And to be fair, he points out some of the shortfalls (not many) of the system.
The Sports Kit is Time magazine’s Gadget of the Week, and the reviewer tries the kit on other activities besides running (elliptical machine).
Interesting tidbits of info in both articles. Get your Nike+iPod Sports Kit and start running!
Words of the Day Came From…
My recent Word of the Day posts came from the Da Vinci Code that I read while on vacation. Lots of words in the book I didn’t know so I had to look them up. Costco had it for like $4 so I wanted to see what the hype was about. I liked the book but probably won’t watch the movie.
Who knew Apple would be the key to opening the codex. I only thought they made Macs and iPods, but I guess Apple’s history goes way back. Is that an iPod at the Last Supper?

Jess(ica) for You
Jessica Simpson really, really digs you, you know. And to prove it, she’ll personalize her new song, A Public Affair, with your name in it.
Okay, you have to pay $2 for the song and like, multiple versions of the song are available with common names, but who cares? It’s kind of a neat idea.
Tabasco Man, you’ll have to wait awhile, but T, Wayne’s World, and Angry Asian Girl, you’re all covered if you want the ex-Mrs. Lachey to sing to you.

- troubadour
Any guesses where these words of the day came from?
Securing the Homeland Requires iPods
The Washingtonpost.com is carrying a story about purchasing abuse within the Homeland Security Department. Some interesting facts:
“more than 10,000 Homeland Security employees carry purchase cards for business-related expenses… with a spending limit that was raised to $250,000 for emergencies after Hurricane Katrina hit…”
purchased were “12 Apple iPod Nanos and 42 iPod Shuffles, worth $7,000, for Secret Service ‘training and data storage.’ Because the Shuffles cost less than $300, the Secret Service said they were not required to track them to ensure they were used properly”
“A beer brewing kit and ingredients for more than $1,000 for a Coast Guard official to brew alcohol while on duty as a social organizer for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.”
“Federal Emergency Management Agency cannot locate 107 laptops, 22 printers and two GPS units worth $170,000. FEMA also cannot find 12 of 20 boats the agency bought for $208,000…”
Wayne’s World, as a key player in securing the Homeland, I think you should return some of these items you’re “borrowing.”

Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Preview
A one-minute preview of the upcoming season of BSG is available on YouTube. At the end of Season 2, the Battlestars had to bug out when the Cyclons attacked New Caprica(?). Since years have gone by, there are some significant changes that have happened and the preview hints at some of them. Check out Colonel Tigh’s eye patch.
There’s a slight audio and video mismatch but better than nothing. The season begins on October 3(!!).
