Ninja Warrior Filming in Hawaii?
I’ve never actually watched the televised challenges of those vying to be a ninja warrior, so I’m not familiar with the show, either the original Japanese version or the American one. However, it seems like Ninja Warrior is setting up for a shoot at the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon of the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Sorry, I don’t have any more details, but with the number of Japanese workers on set, I’m guessing this is for the Japan series.
The Best Christmas…Rejection
Although the Hawaii-Wichita St. matchup was my overall favorite game, the best individual highlight came from the Hawaii-Colorado game on Christmas day of the Diamond Head Classic. Colorado’s guard, Askia Booker, was cleared for a break away layup before UH’s 6-2 senior guard, Garrett Nevels, met him at the rim for the rejection. Although I missed the actual block, I did manage to record the replay.
The Best Christmas…Basketball Game
The best basketball game I saw during the holidays has to be Hawaii’s narrow loss to the Wichita State Shockers in the Diamond Head Classic. Ranked #11 in the country, the Shockers’ offensive putback in the closing seconds of overtime sealed UH’s fate. Still though, the Warriors surprisingly went blow for blow in this matchup, and I was there to watch.
The Best Christmas…Gift
The best Christmas gift received in 2014 has to be this “piggy” bank. Watch the sneaky panda steal your coins!
Target Kailua on Target
The new Target location in Kailua is slowly coming together. I had a hidden hope that the store would be ready by year’s end, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. But the store is shaping up and looks on target to open in March of 2015.
The bonus part? The interior lights are working and during the evenings, you can see an illuminated green mermaid logo in the window of Target. Yep, there’s a Starbucks inside of the store which is across the street from Starbucks.
Anyone got the ins with Target? I wouldn’t mind taking a tour of the work in progress or attending a soft opening. 😉
Look Out Below!!
File this one under abunai. While at the Super Pool of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, there was a crack of glass as a beer bottle fell from the overhead tower. Not sure how high up the bottle fell from, but it did make contact with a guest, causing a gash on the back of his head. Amazingly the guest looked coherent but stunned by the event. At first, there was no blood, but soon enough streams started coming down from his wound.
Security and the hotel staff came quickly to tend to the injured guest and cordoned off the area due to shards of brown glass scattered about. Soon after, the police and EMTs arrived, taking the guest away in a neck immobilizer. Hopefully, this was for precautionary measure with no lasting injuries.
No Zippys in Kailua in the New Year
The new year of 2015 in Kailua will be one without Zippys. This local staple is temporarily closing its doors for renovations for 6 months starting after the holidays. So if you got some benefit chili tickets, be sure to redeem them soon otherwise you have to go elsewhere for your pickup.
Maybe President Obama should stop by while he’s in town? Who knew the POTUS likes the Zip Min?
My Second Starbucks for Life Win
Yay! My second win from the Starbucks for Life contest is a free tall coffee. Seemingly, I’m behind the winning curve with others getting a variety of small goodies. With purchases and daily free codes, this is my second win in over 15 attempts.
So Close to the Legend
So close yet so far away… that’s me and the upcoming release of the Air Jordan 11 “Legend Blue.” The conditions were there, meaning I entered so I could win, and today felt like a winning day. Checking the Ala Moana web site for the Foot Locker raffle, my ticket was just shy of a win.
On the bright side, being off by one digit just saved me $200. And it’s not like I haven’t loved before… [I can’t believe I don’t have a picture of the pair I owned back in the day!!!]
Holiday Gift Guide 2014: Cat Paw Toy
As a non-cat person, I really don’t get this cat paw toy. Personally, this toy kinda creeps me out. But then again, I’m not a cat person. OR maybe I don’t understand the true meaning of this toy.
As a holiday gift, the receiver can figure out if this toy is what Anna Kendrick says it is.
