Fly White Guy in Hawaii!
Take a closer look at tourists visiting the Hawaiian Islands since one of them could very well be a fly white guy named Steve Nash. Yeah, that Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns is in Hawaii .

Old Bessie, our longtime washing machine, finally gave out, losing a battle with a waterlogged comforter. So it was off to Sears to find Bessie’s heir. We checked Consumer Reports and went looking for the highest rated Kenmore washer in the reviews (Sears has a sale on appliances this weekend). Other features we want – a front loader that can handle bulky items like pillows and comforters. Sick kids who throw up a lot makes this a necessity!
Due to the bad economy the Sears appliance section is dead with pretty much no customers looking around. So when we showed up, there were quite a few sales people eager to help. Craig started helping us and after talking with him, he showed us washers made by LG. Never had an LG anything before, but he sold it.
Some of the benefits of the LG WM2487HWMA:
What else? Cost was okay though front loaders are also more expensive. Oddly enough, even though Sears has a sale on Kenmore stuff, this LG was discounted 22%. And the white color is cheaper. And there’s free delivery (coming tomorrow, yes Sunday). And HECO is giving out a $50 rebate since this is an energy efficient washer. And this model was rated #7 in the Consumer Reports guide. Â Â So in all, a pretty good deal.
How well does it work? We’ll see tomorrow.
Kaneohe is the latest community to go green with Hawaii’s recycling program. Many residents got their green waste trash bins delivered today.
And thanks to the workers who spared an extra part or two to repair the broken hinge of our trash bin. These guys worked long hours in the hot sun getting all these recycling bins assembled and delivered. Mahalo!
Wow, who pushed the turbo button? All of a sudden there’s a bunch of hits coming in to Pulpconnection. Hmmm, looks like the topic of the LOST cake created by the Ace of Cakes crew is trending. I haven’t seen last night’s LOST special, but I’m guessing the show talked about the cake made for LOST’s 100th episode?
A picture of the LOST cake is in this post. But the source of these pics is Jorge Garcia himself from his Dispatches from the Island. If you want to read about the Ace of Cakes season finale taping, this is the post you’re looking for.
With the rain coming down this morning, here I was “speeding” on the H,1 late to work.
From a maps point of view, I was here.
Did you catch this week’s episode of LOST, titled “Some Like It Hoth?” Remember the scene where Miles was abducted by a van full of strangers? Here’s a refresher.
That scene was filmed at Miki’s on Lehua Avenue in Pearl City. Even though less than a minute, the crew was there for some time, transforming Miki’s into La Vida Tacos.
Interesting to see how this…
transformed into this… (well except for the night time part)
If you need a recap of the episode, be sure to check out The Transmission and this week’s podcast.

Don’t look now, but the ABC hit, Dancing with the Stars, has a small kine local competitor with “Dancing with the Celebrities.” Local celebrities and the Hawaii Ballroom Dancing Association are teaming up for a dancing event featuring some familiar names like:
On Saturday, May 2, 2009, you can see these stars (and dancing neophytes) at the Ala Wai Palladium for $20. Tannya Joaquin will be dancing a rumba. Wonder how it’ll compare to this rumba of Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas? 😉
Took Thursday off to spend some extra family time even though we just came back from a SoCal vacation. In jest, a coworker said I was slacking via Twitter, but I replied I was merely enjoying life! What did I do on my day off?
Started the day off playing with Play Doh.
Then we headed out to Kahala Mall to dine at The Counter. No Daniel Dae Kim sighting, but the place was packed! Instead of waiting to dine in the kind-of-plain interior, we got take out. Our meal consisted of the signature Counter Burger and Taco Turkey along with Fifty-Fifty fries (regular and sweet). At the recommendation of @abaggy, we needed to try a milkshake too.
Total damage was around $30. Food was good, and I would go back but probably construct my own burger.
I managed to exchange my ultracompact USB power adapter that came with my iPhone 3G at the Apple Store. Then headed to Champs Sports to take advantage of the on-going Friends and Family sale. Sadly, I couldn’t find anything, wishing for the new Nike Air Max 2009+ (of which there’s some confusion about its release date).
The highlight of the day was meeting @NEENZ and @noe808 in real life. I’ve interacted with NEENZ online for some time, going back to her days with Truemors and now Alltop.com. We just never did meet in person. That changed today thanks to Twitter (and BriteKite) when I saw this tweet come in. We were both at Kahala Mall.
I managed to find the Chief Evangelist of Alltop sitting outside of Starbucks. We chatted for a bit about all kinds of stuff (blogging, business, finding time, family, etc) before NEENZ had to continue her social media consultation with @hazelnutcottage. Still though, it was a great chance encounter! (But dumb me forgot to take a picture)
So back to the title of this post, slacking or enjoying life? Definitely enjoying life!
