Companies are giving a closer look at blogs to help advertise their products. Seems like more product promotions are being left to bloggers to spread the word. Coupled with traditional advertising, blogs provide a very cheap source of advertising.
Companies are increasingly partnering with hobby bloggers to harness the burgeoning influence of online buzz. Through the digital grapevine, companies reap the marketing rewards of free publicity, higher rankings on search engines and immediate access to conversations with consumers.
Sounds like a solid plan. Now, only if Apple would provide free test products to blog about… or I wouldn’t mind reviewing Nike products… or trying out Starbucks drinks.

Been busy doing some mundane and some fun stuff recently, but boy do I need a shot of inspiration right about now. I’m hoping Apple and Steve Jobs can provide it come Monday when Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference kicks off. Recently, WWDC has been the launching platform for new Apple stuff. You know, the stuff that’s not only neat and cool, but the stuff that redefines the game. The stuff that makes other tech companies go “WTF?!” and forces them to reassess their plans and change directions to follow Apple’s lead. Now, that is cool and inspirational.
More rumors of the iPhone are coming up again. The full screen video iPod is probably not ready. The PowerMacs, the last hold out using PPC processors, will definitely change, and this change will probably include a new case. The next OS, codename Leopard, will be shown, and with Microsoft Vista delayed, Microsoft has even more time to steal ideas from Apple.

As testing and tryouts of the Nike+iPod Sports Kit go on, more positive reviews are surfacing. The latest come from venerable Walt Mossberg (and sprinting assistant Katie) and Time magazine.
Walt gives a good review of just how the system works and describes his experiences using the Sports Kit. He also talks about the NikePlus.com website to track your stats, challenge yourself and your friends. And to be fair, he points out some of the shortfalls (not many) of the system.
The Sports Kit is Time magazine’s Gadget of the Week, and the reviewer tries the kit on other activities besides running (elliptical machine).

There are great screenshots of the Nano interface to customize your running stats and pictures of the nikeplus website that tracks your running stats and can compare them against a global audience.

I haven’t posted any news about kicks recently, but a lot is going on in the kicks community. Always brewing in the background is information about the latest Air Jordans or retro-ed Air Jordans. Yep, retro Jordans are the “in” thing and have been hot for some time. We’re not talking antediluvian shoes, but rereleases of popular, cherished, and even legendary sneakers.
NikeTalk has pictures of 2007 releases of Air Jordans and some are neck breakers. Check out this bevy of AJ III, IV, and Vs that are slated for release. What colors!
I like the simplicity of the grey AJ III. The grey should be easy to match and can easily go with jeans or shorts.
That black and maize yellow AJ IV brings some serious heat that’ll make shoe freaks genuflect for sure! Wearing these, you can rightfully be sanctimonious.

Heard a new dessert shop, La Palme Dor Patisserie, opened up next to Shirokiya in Ala Moana Center. Finding it was tricky since it’s facing the parking lot along with a few other small stores.
The store is nicely decorated and the treats look great in the glass case. So many varieties, and the recently-opened store isn’t even in full swing yet.
I tried a coffee dessert that was pretty good. Cost was $4 which is on the high side, especially since the bakery in Shirokiya is right next door. But the desserts at La Palme Dor are the kind of stuff you’d expect at a sitdown restaurant so the $4 price tag really isn’t that bad. Also compare that price with a single scoop of ice cream at the new Ben & Jerry’s at Ward. If you had to, what would you rather spend your $4 on?

Yes, dear readers, I almost picked up a pair of pink kicks. Maybe it’s the heat, maybe it’s the freedom of being on vacation, or maybe I’m just addicted to kicks, but I almost succumbed and bought a pair of Nike Shox TL2 running shoes from discount store Marshalls, here in the armpit of Cali. I had to demonstrate extreme sangfroid to resist the temptation.
Normally, these cost about $120-150 but Marshalls had them for $60. The catch? These are women shoes in black and pink. Still though, the main difference between men and women shoes is the 1.5 size difference. Size 9.5 in men equals size 11 in women’s, and sure enough that’s what I found at Marshalls – the only pair of TL2s in a size 11.
The TL line is one of the top Nike products, and the TL2 is a high performance, cushioned running shoe featuring Shox columns the entire length of the foot. Kinda ugly and clunky, but for an overweight guy with busted up knees and ankles trying to run, comfort and cushioning are important. Nike has the TL3 and TL IV available, so the TL2 are showing their age.
Now the question is, can I pull it off wearing pink sneakers?
