Word of the Day: Bole
I forget the context of bole so it could either be:
the trunk of a tree
or
a fine, compact, earthy clay
Meh, kind of a boring word to use in everyday conversations or the workplace. And that’s no hyperbole!

Check out these new kicks from Adidas. These “shoes” are made to mimic your natural foot (along with some added cushioning) and are supposed to help your overall fitness routine. But can you ball in these? No, since the Adipure Trainers are strictly training shoes. Besides, you’d be laughed off the court if you wore them.
But for fitness training purposes, these are intriguing and have more athletic stylings than the Vibram Five Fingers. For the cost ($90), I think I’d stick with the more traditional kicks like the Nike Free series, but I’m willing to giving these a try.
As the eventual end of the Borders empire looms, there’s a lot of activity and shopping underway. And it’s not just books but everything within the store walls that’s being sold. Here are some pictures from the Windward Mall location and some of the memorabilia I picked up.
Here’s what the inside of the store looks like. Panorama created by 360 Panorama. Be sure to pan and zoom around.
The Mortal Instruments trilogy has become a tetralogy with the addition of the City of Fallen Angels.
I didn’t know another book was in the works after The City of Glass. Surprise, surprise!
In the name of the Angel…

My new fave song right now is Kelly Rowland’s Motivation. Didn’t know who sang this hit until SoundTracking ID-ed it for me. And I just looked up the lyrics. Whoa.
If you know the lyrics, the video is an appropriate match. Let it motiviate you!
Who knew? Actress Anne Hathaway can bring it.
You can spot Anne in the upcoming Batman movie, the Dark Knight Rises, playing the role of Catwoman.
You remember that game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon where any actor can be linked to Kevin Bacon within 6 connections? The game is now real thanks to Yahoo and Facebook. But now instead of Kevin Bacon, the modern day Small World Experiment is attempting to link anyone in the world within 6 connections. Can it be done? Try it now.
If you upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, you might have noticed an irritating bug, especially if you’re a mobile user. While on the go, you may see this error message pop up quite often.
It reads “There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the type “file:” are not supported”. Not too helpful for troubleshooting, right? Seems like the culprit is Time Machine in Lion, and this issue has been captured in several Apple Support Communities:
One fix is to reset Time Machine following these basic steps. Or this doesn’t irritate you that much, you can wait for an update to Lion and hope Apple squashes this bug.
It’s 2011, and only now have I made my first purchase on Zappos.com. Was in the market to replace worn out running shoes and took a look at Nike.com and Footlocker.com. Then I went to Zappos and found the same shoe, the Nike Zoom Structure Triax 14 with no tax and free shipping. So I placed my order on Sunday night.
On Thursday, the off-roading mail carrier came by with a Zappos box in hand. I must say, the Zappos box is enchanting. It’s a regular cardboard box but check out the adornments reiterating the Zappos way.

Have you heard of Oceanic’s new Road Runner Broadband Extreme service? That’s 30 Mbps of download speed to go with 5 Mbps upload speed. Now that’s extreme (at least for Hawaii)!
But does it work as advertised? Check out this speed test result.

Looks like RR Extreme is holding up to its promises. But does extreme speed equal extreme costs? Oceanic is advertising this extreme service for “$35.95 more per month, for Standard Road Runner customers.” Whoa, that does seem extreme! An additional $36 per month on top of current RR costs? Not so fast. Talk with Oceanic reps and see if they can get discounted pricing for you. I’m not sure what factors come into play, but it is possible. Without giving out details, I’m paying between $10 and $17 a month for Extreme service, definitely not $35.95. There is on contract so you can always return to Road Runner Residential speeds and costs.
And if you’re hedging on this, one word of caution. This is a new service for Oceanic and is not optimized for its existing network. As such, Oceanic is limiting this service to two Extreme customers in an area. I don’t know what an area is, a neighborhood, a block, a network segment, but once there are two Extreme customers in your area, Oceanic won’t add any more. This will definitely change when Oceanic can ensure acceptable performance for all customers, but there’s no timetable. So if you want Road Runner Extreme, be sure to get it before your neighbors do.
