Hawaii’s Dancing with the Celebrities
Don’t look now, but the ABC hit, Dancing with the Stars, has a small kine local competitor with “Dancing with the Celebrities.” Local celebrities and the Hawaii Ballroom Dancing Association are teaming up for a dancing event featuring some familiar names like:
- Tannya Joaquin
- Stephanie Lum
- Justin Cruz
- Olena Rubin
- Liz Chun
- Steve Uyehara
On Saturday, May 2, 2009, you can see these stars (and dancing neophytes) at the Ala Wai Palladium for $20. Tannya Joaquin will be dancing a rumba. Wonder how it’ll compare to this rumba of Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas? 😉
What Would You Do?
What would you do if you happened to catch a rare, endangered shark? You’d eat it, of course!
Fishermen in the Philippines caught a 1100 pound, 13-foot megamouth shark, only the 41st megamouth ever seen in the world. After reaching port, the fishermen took a picture of the dead shark then fired up the stoves.

Pecs-a-frenzy on Dancing with the Stars
Each week of Dancing with the Stars is an anticipated wait for Cheryl Burke and Gilles Marini to perform. By far, they are the best couple of Season 8. For their paso doble in Week 5, Gilles started a fan frenzy even before the dance began, standing on stage shirtless, showing off his martial arts trained physique.
Building on the frenzy caused by his pecs, Gilles and Cheryl delivered a killer (though hectic, Len is right) paso. Where is this guy’s weakness? It surely ain’t kryptonite.
Week 5 might be the last for Steve-O. Could be LT, but the Edyta-factor should keep LT in the game for another week. Lil’ Kim, dancing with Derek Hough is raising your stock.
And lookee, lookee, DWTS now has a presence on Twitter with a few of their stars tweeting. The “Live on the Set” section is powered by Twitter with stars Holly Madison, Gilles Marini, Ty Murray, Denise Richards, and Melissa Rycroft providing updates. So far, these tweets are pretty boring, and Holly and Denise are already eliminated. How about changin’ them default Twitter avatars?
Update: Neither of my predictions (Steve-O or LT) were eliminated. Instead enigmatic David Alan Grier is gone from the competition. While his dancing was better than Steve-O or LT, he really didn’t connect with partner Kym Johnson.
Damn Linksys Default
Dang, my iPhone continually gets confused with the abundance of the default “linksys” WiFi SSID. Out of the box, Linksys wireless equipment broadcasts on a “linksys” network, and a family member has a “linksys” wireless network which I frequently used.
However, if I ever use my iPhone near another “linksys” wireless network, my iPhone associates with that network which usually doesn’t work. Then I have to “forget this network” in the iPhone settings to restore 3G connectivity and reconnect to the Internet.
I guess I should change the WiFi network name for my relative so I don’t run into this problem…

Lots and Lots of Legos
No duh, but Legoland has lots and lots of Legos. Not just in the park, but Legos that you can buy and take home with you.

Good Samaritan on the 405 South
While driving to San Diego on the 405 South, there was a stalled van in the middle lane of the busy freeway. The passengers were pushing the van, trying to get to the shoulder lane and out of the way of speeding cars. Very, very dangerous.
But this Good Samaritan driving an Albertsons big rig helped out by throwing a huge roadbock. He stopped traffic in three lanes of a major freeway so that the van could safely (and more quickly) get to the side out of harms way for both themselves and all other drivers.
Good move truck 14033!
Anteaters Enjoy their Coffee
The Anteaters of UC Irvine, the Home of Eater Nation, like their coffee. A full fledged Starbucks store has infiltrated the campus taking the spot of the school’s outside cafe.
The school itself has gotten a facelift with major renovations of the exterior of the Student Center.
The inside of the Bookstore looks about the same though with lotta love for Team Edward.
And the UCI Medical Center by Disneyland also completed their new facility.
