Ballin’ with Barack
Even though Barack Obama’s a Punahou graduate, this Iolani alum has to give props to this shirt sold at Prototype in Pearlridge.

Ballin’ with Barack is old school/new school, retro/contemporary, and fresh and funky all at the same time.

Spam Hot Dogs, Only in Hawaii
Only in Hawaii would you find this crossover mix of spam and hot dogs!

Available now at Costco. Yes, they do look like hot dogs and yes, they do taste like spam.

My Digital Plan Starts With This…
The first step of my digital plan starts with this, the Samsung LN46A540.
- 46 inches
- LCD HDTV
- 1080p, 1920×1080 resolution
- 5 ms response time
- 35,000:1 contrast ratio
- $1599.99 from Costco
A pretty good deal for what you get according to these guys. Doesn’t have all the latest features, but cost is good. Was looking at its big brother, the LN46A550, or the higher A650 but for the price, the A540 is just right.
What’s Hot? Changing Jobs for Mommyhood
Especially in the world of television news anchors. First Kim Gennaula left KGMB9 to spend more time with her kids. Now Tannya Joaquin is taking a maternity hiatus but instead of returning to KHON2, she’ll show up at KGMB9!

Is Kanye West still in Hawaii recording his next album?
This picture was supposedly taken in Hawaii but forget that. Look at the MacBook Air Kanye’s geniusizing on.

Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere 2008
Technorati’s annual State of the Blogosphere report is rolling out this week. It’s an interesting but maybe somewhat limited look at the trends and characteristics of blogs and bloggers.
Each day, a new topic is published. So far, Who are the Bloggers? and The What and Why of Blogging are available. The How of Blogging, Blogging for Profit, and Brands Enter the Blogosphere round out the week.
I think I fit most of the descriptions outlined in The What and Why of Blogging. Pulpconnection contains multiple topics loosely centering around pulp, passions, and addictions of mine.
“Half of bloggers consider their style to be sincere, conversational, humorous, and expert in nature.” Yeah, I’d go with that.
“Self expression and sharing expertise are the top reasons for blogging.” Yup, yup.
“Personal satisfaction is the key success metric for three out of four bloggers.” Must be since revenue around here is paltry. While blogging is mostly for fun, once in awhile you get monetary surprises. Let’s see, for the month of September, Google Adsense says I’ve earned $6.82.
“Blogging has opened up unique opportunities” and has benefits. I still got my Vudu box for an occasional flick. 🙂

Apple Store Waikiki Opens This Week
Waikiki is finally getting its Apple Store this Saturday. First 1000 visitors to the new Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center location will get a collectible Apple shirt.
Tourists rejoice!
Just Tacos is Just Okay
A new Just Tacos opened up near work so I gave it a try. Eh, just okay. Nothing fancy, nothing great, just okay. I wasn’t in the mood for a belly busting lunch so I got the two tacos plate. The “two” taco tortillas overlap so really, it’s like one extended soft taco. See for yourself.

Cost was $5 and I was warned advised that the dish is prepared plain so I’d need to hit the spice bar to give it some kick.
Even though the meal looked small, I was full. Would I go back again? Probably not.

Pulpconnection On Sugar
There’s another blogging platform now freely available to the public. Check out On Sugar for some sweet blogging.
On Sugar is easy to use and pretty flexible. The admin interface is simply but provides all the necessities. You can change between various themes, design your own theme, add popular widgets, have multiple authors, and more.
And for the heck of it, there is, of course, pulpconnection.onsugar.com.

The Weekend in Pics – Baby Emporium, Mana Bu’s, Whole Foods
Pictures from the weekend. Checked out new infant car seats at the expanded Baby Emporium.

Went to Mana Bu’s for lunch. By the time we got there, they were pretty much wiped out, but we had to get something after reading this detailed review.
Parking is atrocious. The white rice musubis were already gone, and when things go, you’re pretty much out of luck.
The 10 Grains musubis weren’t too bad.
Lastly, off to the recently opened Whole Food Market in Kahala Mall. Was crowded(!) with umm, characters. Some interesting types shop at this healthier marketplace. I shoulda stuck with Starbucks coffee which is right across the way. The iced mocha from the Allegro coffee bar needed some help.
Pictures in a slide show format.
Hope you had a great weekend in Hawaii!
