Welcome Back Diane Ako
Happened to catch the 9 o’clock news on KFVE where Diane Ako was welcomed back from maternity leave.
So no more searching for Diane Ako. She’s back on the air.

The latest fad in the hoops world is to get yourself an abnormally tall Asian dude on your team. The UH Men’s basketball team is now hip with this fad signing 6-10 Ji Xiang.
After you shake off the obvious first question of just where do all these tall Chinese guys come from, you have to wonder if this guy can really play. I mean UH did have seven footer Todd Follmer last year, and well, he did diddley going for 1.6 points and 0.7 boards a game.
Ji Xiang averaged 20 points and 12 boards a game during high school and will be a freshman enrolling at UH. Supposedly notable teams like Oregon, Oregon State, Georgetown, and Fresno State were recruiting Ji so we’ll see if Ji Xiang can really xiang the ji on the court.
Gotta keep an eye out for them Ji jerseys.

Now that the eye candy is being eliminated from Top Chef, it’s coming down to the real skills of the competition. But, in Episode 8: Restaurant Wars, all the chefs ran into problems opening up their teams’ restaurants. For the judges’ decision, it was a simple matter of who sucked less. In the end, both teams sucked equally so in an undramatic move, the judges ordered a do-over of the Restaurant Wars challenge.
Both teams of Restaurant April and The Garage will be back next week to improve their sorry performances of making inedible food, forgetting silverware, and having flustered and sweaty service. Let’s see who can make the most improvements!

If you ever stepped into an Apple Store, then it’s no surprise that Apple appeals to the young. The store is filled with teenie boppers using the demo iPods, Macs, and now iPhones. In fact, if you want to try out a Mac on display, you’d probably have to kick some kids off who are updating their web site or playing games.
One funny note, while walking outside the Ala Moana Apple Store, I heard teens say that’s the “iPod” store.

Yes, I think it is official. Britney Spears is cuckoo.
Read up on her “parenting” skills that would make Angry Asian Girl’s blood boil. Then read how she did an Allure photo shoot but avoided the interview, going to get her nails done.

That’s the motto for Tassimo.
TASSIMO is not just another coffee maker. It’s a whole new way to prepare a variety of delicious hot drinks perfectly, in the comfort of your own home. And it’s so simple.
With the TASSIMO machine and the TASSIMO Discs (T DISCs) you can make the hot drink you want, when you want it. No fuss. No bother.
It’s truly amazing. The same machine that makes a real espresso and freshly brewed filter coffee from some of your favorite U.S. and European brands, also makes real milk-based latte & cappuccino, cafe crema, tea, hot chocolate – something for everyone. Each cup is freshly brewed to celebrate its true character and gives you the taste you love, every time.
There’s a video on this page that shows how a perfect cup is made by the Tassimo.
It makes so-called perfect cups with their “ingenious” discs, which contain “a precisely measured amount of coffee, tea, chocolate or concentrated milk, and is sealed to protect the precious flavors inside”. See their beverages here.
Interesting concept but it could get expensive for all you damn addicts considering one disc makes one cup. So visit select Best Buy or Macy’s stores to pick up your discs if you got the shakes. Yes, Best Buy sells them (but not all beverages).
Or if you want 5 cups at one time to satiate those cravings, just get the Zutto.
While I haven’t yet gotten my hands on iLife ’08, there are a lot of reviews coming out. While I initially liked the feature description of iMovie ’08, namely the management of movie assets, David Pogue has a horror story of what ISN’T in iMovie ’08.
Looks like all the features I use to spiffy up videos are no longer available. No timeline?? Reduced audio editing?? Gadzooks!
Apple should just spin off iMovie ’08 into another application specific for movie asset management or better yet fold together the new iMovie and the old iMovie.
Little did I know that Olena Rubin’s hiring at KHON would bring to light some interesting discussion about the local business success of beauty pageant winners. We’re talking winners of the Miss Hawaii and Miss Hawaii USA pageants. Here is a list of winners going back to 1993 as provided by Wikipedia. Recognize any names?
I highlighted the winners that have had time on local broadcast television news.

Payments from ads featured on Pulpconnection are rolling in! Check out my first check from LinkShare, the affiliate program for the iTunes Music Store.
Slate has an article about Starbucks and its relationship with the Internet. I had read some of the included references before but never heard of a “ghetto latte.”
I might have to try this since the Starbucks Oracle rates me and my drinks as “clueless.” Who else asks for a blueberry mocha?
Just some updates on recent posts on Pulpconnection.
Club 939’s 2nd anniversary of bringing the heat to Hawaii starts on Friday, and you can be my guest! The local management of 939 has made a VIP list for the loyal readers of Pulpconnection that gets you free admission to the frivolity. Just say you’re on Gee Why’s guest list. Or, is this really a ploy to meet the Angry Asian Girl?
And speaking of the Angry Asian Girl, she unknowingly started an interesting discussion about former beauty queen winners finding local success in other ventures. Case in point, Olena Rubin as a news reporter for KHON. Then there’s Malika Dudley on KGMB and Erika Kauffman who’s doing public relations work.

Can anyone explain the hiring of Justin Cruz to do the weather?
