La Palme Dor Patisserie
Heard a new dessert shop, La Palme Dor Patisserie, opened up next to Shirokiya in Ala Moana Center. Finding it was tricky since it’s facing the parking lot along with a few other small stores.
The store is nicely decorated and the treats look great in the glass case. So many varieties, and the recently-opened store isn’t even in full swing yet.
I tried a coffee dessert that was pretty good. Cost was $4 which is on the high side, especially since the bakery in Shirokiya is right next door. But the desserts at La Palme Dor are the kind of stuff you’d expect at a sitdown restaurant so the $4 price tag really isn’t that bad. Also compare that price with a single scoop of ice cream at the new Ben & Jerry’s at Ward. If you had to, what would you rather spend your $4 on?

I Can Fix It!
I think that’s what Bob the Builder says anyways. Looks like my iWeb sites are sorta working so I can post multiple images on a web page now.
Lesson learned is to follow the given instructions.
Ben & Jerry’s Grand Opening
Saw a news clip about the grand opening of the first Ben & Jerry’s ice cream store in Hawaii at the Victoria Ward Centre. Happened to be in the Ward area when the store opened at 11AM. First 50 through the door got free ice cream. Local news stations were there covering the grand opening although I didn’t recognize any of the reporters.
As the 28th customer, I got the Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz which was okay. Regular items are pricey. A single scoop of ice cream goes for $4. Can’t you get a pint of Ben & Jerry’s at the supermarket for that cost?
Will this place survive? Location is kinda out of the way by Borders, Kicks Hawaii, and the construction. Also, Coldstone is right down the street and is closer to the movie theaters to catch the moviegoers.
Of course, I got a few pictures. No great shots though.
What the Tabasco Man Needs
Found these while eating at the Fig Garden Village while in the Armpit of Cali. These Tabasco packets are exactly what the Tabasco Man needs instead of carrying around his own bottle. Unless of course, he needs a handful to spice up his meals then maybe he should stick with his own bottle(s).

Technical Difficulties
Running into some technical difficulties with getting new pictures posted. Seems like using iWeb to make sites with a single .Mac account on two different computers is not necessarily a good thing.

Last batch of pics from a weekend in San Fran. Met up with friends living in the city for a mini reunion. Good to see everyone again and Happy Birthday Kim. That cake is a fire hazard!
On the way out of San Fran, went for dim sum at the Koi Palace in Daly City. What a madhouse! Never seen a dim sum spot so crowded. Then stopped off at the Outlets at Gilroy for some shopping. Didn’t get a lot, but did go to the Nike outlet.
Lots of pies at Marrie Callenders. Instead of trying something different like Razzleberry, we got a custard pie. 🙁
Weekend in San Francisco
Had a short getaway from the Armpit of Cali and headed to San Francisco for the weekend.
The drive was longer than normal due to road work, but luckily my iPod was fully charged and loaded with tunes. First, we headed to the Apple campus on 1 Infinite Loop and bought some stuff from the Company Store. Also ran into blogger Paul Stamatiou who’s interning at Yahoo.
Stayed in the Holiday Inn on Van Ness and luckily had a corner room with a view. Saw the fog roll in quickly as evening approached.
Went to Chinatown a few times and also tried out a farmers market which was packed with people and vendors. Visited the Conservatory of Flowers along with their Butterfly Zone exhibit. Pretty neat. Interesting plants and the Butterfly Zone is cool with butterflies roaming around you.
Starbucks Drive Thru – I Get It
Now I understand the point of Starbucks featuring a drive thru window. You got a car with one or more kids strapped in on your way for a long (or even short) ride. You see a Starbucks drive thru right before you hit the freeway. No need to get out and unstrap the kids, delaying your trip even longer.
Get it? Got it. Good.
Running in 90+ Degrees…
… is a killer! Very hot and dry in the Armpit of Cali with recent temperatures above 90 degrees. I think I sweat more in Hawaii, or maybe the heat here dries me up quickly. Shade from trees helps a bit, but when the sun’s ablazing, you can’t hide for long.
