Running Pet Peeve
As part of my home workout routine, I’ve been running in the neighborhood and hate it when people hog the sidewalk. People walking side by side don’t move to give me a passing lane or some people simply walk right in the middle of the sidewalk.
Right now, I run around them on the grass or even on the roadway, but I think I should just keep running and bump some of these sidewalk hogs.
I need a pair of Air Max 360 when I do this. Why the 360’s? Just cause I crave them, and you know about cravings and (kicks) addictions.

Nike Air Max 360 Almost Here
The latest in the Nike Air Max line, the Air Max 360, is releasing on January 21. This hyped shoe costs $160 and is supposed to be exempt from promotions and sales.
$160 without any discounts is pretty steep. The Air Max 95 and Air Max 2006 (pictured below) are looking pretty good now.
How Many Starbucks on Oahu?
I’m not as smart as this guy’s Starbucks Center of Gravity, so I just looked up the number of Starbucks we have in Hawaii, specifically on Oahu.
If I count correctly, there are 38 Oahu locations you can get your caffeine fix at!
Here’s the general breakdown:

- Leeward 11
- Waikiki 9
- Windward 3
- Kalihi 0
Okay, okay, I added that Kalihi part, but did you notice that there’s no SBux in Kalihi?

Out of Hand Corporate Info Security
I swear I didn’t write this post on Slashdot about out of hand info security at work.
What is the right balance between security and productivity, in the corporate IT environment? Looking back at my company, 10 years ago, our machines were connected directly to the Internet, no proxy, no firewall, no antivirus software. Today, my company’s proxy server blocks access to: ‘bad’ web sites (such as Google Groups; our ‘antivirus’ software prevents our machines (even machines that host production applications) from carrying out legitimate functions, such as the sending of email via SMTP; and individual employees are forced to apply security patches with little or no notice, under threat of their machines loosing network access, if they do not comply by the deadline.
I just work in this environment.

Marketing Shaq vs Kobe, Round 5
Martin Luther King Day featured a rematch of the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat. The Heat won the first matchup on Christmas but the Lakers won this game 100-92.
The bigger story of this game included Shaq and Kobe acknowledging each other before game tipoff. During the game, Shaq posterized Laker 18-year old rookie, Andrew Bynum, by power dunking over Bynum. Bynum got the Big Fella a good one using his agility after which the two got into a shoving match going back down the court. Who stepped in to separate the big men? Kobe.
So Round 5 goes to Kobe the peacemaker. (Kobe 3, Shaq 2)

Fortune magazine has an article about what Generation X workers want at work. Some interesting observations are made:
The top three things they want in a job, we found, are positive relationships with colleagues, interesting work, and continuous opportunities for learning…
Recognition scored very low, and power and prestige ranked dead last.
Also, check out Fortune’s 2006 list of 100 Best Companies to Work For. Sadly, the Federal Government wasn’t on the list. Hot Topic, the goth clothing store (where I hear the Tabasco Man likes to shop), comes in at #53!

Poll Pau: Are Private School Alumni Cocky?
The “Are Private School Alumni Cocky?” poll has ended, and the results are in. The people have spoken and said we are cocky.
60% of the responses say we’re cocky with a single no vote! One single vote! 30% of the votes say we’re all equals. Six of the voters went to public school and four went to private school. Hmmmm, kinda suspicious, 60% public school responses and 60% of the votes for cockiness?
I tried running the numbers in various ways to doctor the results but just couldn’t disprove our cockiness. Fellow private school alumni, let’s face the facts that we’re cocky. 🙁
