I admit that I’m ignorant about Charleston, South Carolina, but now I know that the cronut craze has traveled south from New York. You can visit Kaminsky’s for their cronut interpretation.
The Kaminsky version is spelled “Kronutz” with a “z” like a good rapper name, and the squared-off cut of the Kronutz give them an edgy look. Gangsta. I’m hoping they offer smaller versions of the Kronutz called the Lil ‘Nutz.
The sweetest comeback by Hostess is well underway. First Twinkies and cupcakes began showing up on shelves. Now, other Hostess treats like Ho Hos are appearing.
And don’t forget, as part of this sweetest comeback in the history of ever is the return of the Cinnamon Roll.
Say what?! I didn’t even know Hostess offered this bakery classic. I think Hostess could have left the cinnamon roll off the comeback list, and they would be okay.
I’d never heard of Cowboy Poker before, but now I’ve seen it “played” at the Surf & Turf Bull Riding and Concert. Held last week at the New Town & Country Stables in Waimanalo, this event also featured bull riding which I’ve never witnessed before either. All I can say is crazy.
Out of the gate, cowboys were flying off the bucking bulls after a few seconds. Staying mounted for three to five seconds was a good ride. Just ask former UH QB, Colt Brennan, who rode his first bull for charity purposes.
This bull just looked nasty and mean.
So about cowboy poker. Four dudes sitting around a table supposedly playing poker…except that there’s a bull loose in the ring with them. And when the bull charges you best be watching him and not your cards.

With a renovated Starbucks and a brand new Starbucks in Kaneohe, you know something had to give to sustain the balance within the coffee universe. Unfortunately, this was the sacrifice necessitated.
Mocha Java Cafe in Windward Mall is now closed. I’m not sure when they closed, having bought a drink in August. I’m guessing the temptation of the SBUX siren came with a cost of not having competition a few scant yards away. So sadly, Mocha Java’s Windward run is over lasting nearly two years. They opened shop during a coffee drought in the mall and right before the holidays so shopping excursions were always caffeinated. I sincerely thank Mocha Java for chancing expansion outside of Ward.
I was worried that the caffeine addicts in Kaneohe wouldn’t have enough sources. But then, the Starbucks inside Windward Mall opened, and the busy Windward City location finished its renovations and is also open to quench coffee cravings.
From the outside, everything looks the same at the Windward City Shopping Center.
The inside has adopted the modern rustic look like the Windward Mall location. Not as original as the Waikiki Park Shore store, more like the Kakaako store, but definitely different from its previous look. The seating has changed the most. Gone is the short, four-seat counter and barstools by the entrance, replaced by a counter that spans the entire window front.
The small, two or four-seater tables have been replaced by a massive single table.
The lighting also changed. I don’t remember what the lighting used to look like but now, there are incandescent or incandescent-looking bulbs with a branded diffuser.
But alas, my hope that this renovation would also bring in Hawaii’s first Clover brewing system wasn’t realized. The Aloha State is still Clover-less.
With Nike’s recent Terra trail running line, the Swoosh is emphasizing the 4 mm differential between the toe and heel. I’ve never seen this type of detail before in typical Nike product information. So what’s with this?

As of Thursday, September 5, 2013, the Starbucks location inside of Windward Mall is open for business. A scant month ago, the construction sign was posted, and now it’s here, neighboring the Pa’ina Ko’olau food court.
This is the third Starbucks location in Kaneohe with the drive-through located across the street and the renovated storefront in the Windward City Shopping Center. The Windward Mall addition is on the small side, occupying a mere cornered angle of mall real estate. So far, there is no Starbucks signage, just the familiar mermaid logo identifying their arrival.
Being new, this Starbucks has the modern rustic look that’s making its way through other stores. Shades of various browns, wood finishes, and tiled patterns appear to be the trend.
This film showing at the Hawaii International Film Festival is indescribable. I’m at a lost but can’t stop laughing after watching the trailer of Hentai Kamen: Forbidden Superhero. It’s so waaaay out there that you have to laugh (and see the film).
I’m almost compelled to watch this show since it’s so outrageous. I can only imagine the quotables from this film. Thanks @ryankanno for the tip.
I really hope a zombified anteater is part of this eight-week course titled, Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead. Yes, this is for real as four UCI instructors “will take you on an inter-disciplinary academic journey deep into the world of AMC’s The Walking Dead.” The cost of attendance is free but a weekly time commitment is expected along with quizzes.
Can you imagine a horde of undead anteaters chasing you down? Truly frightening.

As in sports, you need to have a short memory. Win or lose, forget about it and move on to the next challenge. So I lost out on getting an Air Jordan Fear pack shoe, but that’s so this morning. I’ve already forgotten about the fear and moved on to a next potential win with Nike’s just released Terra trail running line.
While I like the description of the Zoom Terra Kiger, I don’t think they’re right for me. The Zoom Terra Wildhorse seems like a safer (and cheaper) bet. Both are also available from Zappos so returning them is easy.
Oh but wait… what’s this Free Hyperfeel Trail? Those heel laces are simply sick.

Aw bummer, I didn’t win the chance to purchase the Air Jordan Fear Pack from Ala Moana Foot Locker. I thought the signs were in my favor, especially with a raffle ticket ending with #23. But checking the winning numbers, I was denied both the AJ3 and the AJ5.
Oh well, the kicks gods were against me today, or maybe this is a message that I need to listen to Macklemore and not let consumerism define me. Nah, I’d still rather have a fresh pair of Jordans.
