Please keep that in mind the next time you’re riding an escalator and repeat to yourself, “Escalators are not exercise machines.” If you forget, this sign will help you remember.

Now I would have expected something like this at Ala Moana where it seems mandatory that at least one set of escalators is broken. But alas, I guess some Windward guests were overly zealous with their exercise routines in the mall and caused this outage.

Ross Windward Mall Opens This Week

Are you ready? Hawaii’s latest Ross location in Hawaii opens in Windward Mall on Friday, October 12, 2018 according to the Ross store locator.

Now I don’t know what time the store actually opens since I doubt the grand opening would actually occur at 7:30am. I mean the Ala Moana grand opening didn’t occur at 7:30am.

Anyways, the Windward Mall location is shaping up, but there’s still work to be done, mainly with inventory. The exterior entry way was full of Matson containers unloading the goods and dumpsters full of now-empty boxes. Sorry no pictures of this.

On the interior of the mall, you can get a glimpse of the familiar Ross design.

The racks are filling up, but the men’s shoe section looks woefully empty for now. But as evident by all these emptied boxes, there’s more stocking to be done.

I’ve Been Foamer-ized!

Mr. Foamer Simpson has gotten inside my head. It started with this video, 5 Sneakers Every Guy Should Own Right Now! where Foamer listed his fifth pick as the New Balance 990. New Balance 990v4?!? Hanging with the Air Jordan 1, Nike AirMax 270, Adidas Yeezy Boost 700 Wave Runner, and Nike Air Max 1-97 “Wotherspoons” is the 990v4? Really???

Then Foamer posted an explanation in The Most Underrated Sneaker in My Entire Collection and I was convinced. I need to buy research these retro-looking kicks.

I gotta say that while still pulling cues from the past, these shoes look pretty good. Some colorways are better than others while some simply look odd, but I think I could do these Black with Rosin ones.

But these are expensive, quality kicks going for $180+. Actually, the comfort factor plays a big part in these since they look extremely supportive. I’ll have to keep an eye out for discounts on (any) 990, so I can experience them myself.

Amazon Echo Wall Clock, I Want One

So Amazon announced a bevy of upcoming products featuring Alexa. While many of these make a compelling case for any household, I won’t lie by saying that I really want the Echo Wall Clock. Yup, it is what it sounds like. It’s an old school analog wall clock with the big hand and little hand to tell time. But is it really an analog device or just a digitial display made to look analog?

I know there’s a ring of LED lights around the clock face that indicates timers set by Alexa and that alone makes this $30 device useful. We’ve been looking for a wall clock for some time and haven’t found anything that we liked – too expensive, too small, too big, too gaudy, too plain.

The Amazon Echo Wall Clock is utilitarian in appearance, but it’s not ugly. And if it really just runs on batteries would make this a guarantee purchase. Unfortunately, it’s not available to buy or pre-order just yet.

Yeezy Boost 350 Triple White Sold Out Yet?

First off, thanks goes to Adidas and Kanye West for releasing the ever-popular Yeezy line of shoes in mass quantities to the public. Usually a Yeezy drop is plain bananas, but the release of the Triple White colorway seems more equitable due to the mass quantities.

But one downside of the wide availablility is the notification of this availability. Between Adidas and YeezySupply, I don’t know how many emails I’ve received telling me that the Triple Whites are available, still available, and have been restocked. I mean this is actually a good problem to have for consumers, but compared to previous Yeezy drops that are done in hours, this Triple White release spanning days is just odd.

 

eBay Peeve: Real?

Okay, not an eBay tip but a pet peeve. Just how are you supposed to answer questions asking if your items for sale are real or authentic? Um, yes… What kind of question is that? If fake, would I admit to that? And how am I supposed to determine the authenticity either? Yeah, I’ve been around the kicks game for awhile but I’ve never seen every shoe model.

So it’s not surprising when I drove by and saw (real) police monitoring as set workers walked around with pistols.

Didn’t even know BAIT was considering coming to Hawaii, but the apparel and footwear retailer is open on Oahu. I haven’t been there and don’t know the parking situation, but they are at 1500 S. King St.

Smeg Dolce & Gabbana Toaster

While walking around Williams Sonama, I came across this Smeg toaster featuring visual designs by Dolce & Gabbana. Truly an eye catcher from the Sicily Is My Love collection, but then I saw the price tag of $650. $650 for a two-slice toaster!

Okay, okay, the slots are extra-wide, and at 12″x7″x7″, this appliance is big so that $650 is well justified. Although a WordPress blog theme based on the Sicily Is My Love collection would be kinda cool.
