Rumors from the blogosphere say Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros of Lost were arrested on DUI charges late one night in the Kailua area a day or two ago.
True or not? Dunno.

Windward Mall is a Death Trap
A few reasons that Windward Mall is a (financial) death trap.
- About half of the spaces are unoccupied (okay, only 15% unoccupied according to the Star Bulletin in 2004)
- Several stores are seasonal and shutdown after the Holidays
- Two to three 99-cent stores are open for business
- Too many Hawaiiana or craft stores
- People still think JC Penneys is still there
- Jan Ken Po Trivia show, hosted by Lanai and Augie, changes location to Kapiolani Park
- McDonalds willingly closes down (other notable closures – The Gap, Marie Calendar’s Restaurant and Bakery)
Let’s see if the new Farrells or Camille Velasco’s IHOP can revive business at the Mall.
Hawaii Criminal Records Available On-line
The Hawaii Criminal Justice Department has made its records available on-line via their Adult Criminal Conviction Information site, or eCrim, and CourtConnect. You need to register for an eCrim account that costs $1 while the CourtConnect site is completely free. Printing eCrim records costs $13.
Do I want to pay $1 to look up people I know? Nah, but free, I’ll take that.

Dinner at Los Chaparros
Ate dinner at Los Chaparros, a new Mexican restaurant in the McCully area. Los Chaparros translates to “the shorties” and is run by the transplanted shorties, Mario and Lisa. The interior is spacious with a decor featuring an Aztec calendar and indoor fountains.
The food is tasty starting with plentiful chips and salsa (yes, free Tabasco Man). The huge bowl of salsa wasn’t overly spicy but had a kick to it. I ordered their house specialty, the Super Chaparros Burrito (chicken with red sauce), which was just the right size. I didn’t feel grossly overstuffed eating my meal. Although I think the zestier green sauce might have been a better match than the tamer red sauce. The prices are reasonable with my Super Burrito costing $10, and Judy’s burrito/tamale combo plate was $13.
Service was excellent with our waiter constantly refilling ice water, hot water for tea, and coffee. Lots of customers came through the doors while we were there. Although the six parking stall arrangement is tough, street parking is available. Yeah, I’d go back again, but the parking… maybe for another team building work event.

Supporting the Waipahu and Pearl City Economy
Drove out to Waipahu to look at baby gear at USA Baby. Before going to the store, we stopped off at the Poke Stop, run by Chef Elmer Guzman formerly of Sam Choy’s Diamond Head Restaurant. Food is good but pricey.
For dinner, we tried Ige’s Restaurant and 19th Puka in Pearl City. The place is deceptively huge. A whole lot of tables, a whole lot of people, and a whole lot of food. Food is tasty (no Tabasco required). We’d go back there. Too bad they’re not open for lunch.
And oh yeah, the dude working in the front is on the local Body Mint commercial.

Cosmo’s Top Bachelor in Hawaii
According to Cosmopolitan, Jamie Keli’i Kaku Tamashiro is the top bachelor for Hawaii. This month’s issue of Cosmo features a bachelor blowout where the Honolulu based, 26-year old fitness instructor won Hawaii’s top honor. Here are a few excerpts from Mr. Tamashiro’s bio.

I am appalled that Wayne’s World didn’t win this title! I mean an eligible engineer, making a good income, about to be promoted, provided security to Governor Lingle, maintains a righteous blog, and is a genuine nice guy. Juiced, I say!!
