Not in some kind of Internet marketing strategy, but as an indirect means of upping your status. You see, in the past, it was users of Google search and Gmail who were characterized as wealthy and rich (and young).
Now, there’s been a shift to Facebook and Twitter. A recent study shows that FB-ers and Tweeters have more money and tend to live in urban areas. So the obvious correlation is that if you too want to have more money, you have to ditch MySpace and start using Facebook and also tweeti like there’s no tomorrow.
Have you ever watched inspirational TED videos of people changing the world. Two of my favorites are Clay Shirky’s “How Twitter Can Make History” and Seth Godin’s “Tribes.”
Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) has gone global and continues to expand with local, self organized events called TEDx (where x denotes independently organized events). Thanks to familiar faces, Hawaii is fortunate to have its own TEDx event, TEDxHonolulu. Slated for Friday, November 6, 2009, TEDxHonolulu is themed “Shift” and will feature “speakers who can inspire the audience to make changes physically, mentally, and emotionally to change their worlds and inevitably the world.”
Attendance is limited to 100 and you must be invited to attend, but still, this is simply awesome!
For guys looking for the perfect weekday happy hour, Club 939 and La Isla Burrito have a strategy for you. Starting on October 1 from 5 to 8pm, Club 939 is offering no cover charge, $2 bottled beers, half off other drinks, and a free mexican buffet from La Isla Burrito.
Click on the flyers below to enlarge.
For a limited time, you can get a subscription to the awesome Inc magazine for only $5. Amazon is now selling an one-year subscription for one Abe Lincoln if you act before October 3.
That’s $45 off the regular subscription price!
It’s been a long time since center Seth Sundberg lumbered the court of the Stan Sheriff Center. He surely wasn’t a dominating force for UH in the paint, but he was serviceable for the collegiate game. Didn’t he get into an infraction or two?
Those days are gone with Seth, also known as Franco Metcalf, now arrested for tax fraud. Yeah, a 7 footer getting a tax refund check for $5M isn’t noticeable and suspicious in any way.
When Kanye West said Beyonce’s video for Single Ladies was the greatest of all time, maybe he had a point (but definitely the wrong venue for that announcement). Who knew the Single Ladies video could be the central theme for an episode of Glee? Did you see episode 3!! Epic use of Single Ladies interleaved throughout the show.
I thought the episode’s beginning alone was classic, but the football game too? You had to smile.
Don’t you hate wasting time? At work, we’ve gotten caught up in fighting a fight that’s really the wrong fight. Whatever we do isn’t right because in reality, we’re not fighting the right fight. But at the same time, those picking the fight aren’t telling all involved what the right fight is, you follow?
Only after several losses can we sorta glean what the real fight/issue is. Only had we known that from the start, we could have been fighting the right fight and not wasting time.
So I got YOURLS working on pulp.ly, and it does work very well as a personal URL shortener. The only sticking point I had was that shortened URLS weren’t tweeted when created with a desktop blogging app such as Ecto. Tweets would go out when blog posts were generated via the WordPress admin interface but not so when published through the WordPress API.
Well, that issue is no longer! Ozh has released a newer version of the YOURLS WordPress plugin that fixes this. Download and install version 1.3 of the plugin and see for yourself that YOURLS is now awesomer.
Season 6 of Dancing with the Stars might have the best ever. Or maybe it was last season? In either case, Season 9 won’t be vying for that distinction. Simply stated this season is not good. After one week, the leaders are Aaron Carter, Donnie Osmond, Joanne Krupa, and Kelly Osbourne. I’m hoping things only get better as the weeks go by, but I am fearful.
Aaron Carter has youthful exuberance going for him… and that’s his hair. Fighter Chuck Liddell is built for the ring, not the dance floor. Okay, okay, local boy Mark Dacascos has a chance of going far in this competition. His martial arts background translated into an interesting Kung Fu Fighting cha cha cha. That and he’s not afraid to show his “man boobs.”
Donny Osmond didn’t get the highest scores but rocked the crowds like his sister Marie. The Osmonds are showmen and know how to work that PR machine. I just hope for less drama. Louie Vito surprised me, but I have to question his work ethic. Sorry, but Michael Irvin won’t be making the former NFL-players-turned-dancers proud. Tom DeLay? Sadly, we won’t be seeing too much of partner Cheryl Burke this season.
Debi Mazar is too soft and so is Kathy Ireland who I didn’t recognize. Melissa Joan Hart is okay, and Mya and the muscle-toned Natalie Coughlin could be mirrorball contenders.
The dance of the night belonged to Kelly Osbourne who has talent. Coupled with her background, Kelly has a compelling story to watch.
So who didn’t make it through the first week of Dancing with the Stars? Ashley Hamilton, the son of George Hamilton, was the first guy to go and rightfully so. With him goes the ever-popular Edyta.
While I thought Kathy Ireland might be the first female to be eliminated, hazy Macy Gray didn’t make it. What was she on during her performance? And I thought that comment about popping her cherry might have carried her to week 2. Not so.
If Project Runway’s Tim Gunn were to critique Season 9 of DWTS, he’d say, “Make it work!”
When you’re hungry, you don’t want any extra fuss or muss. You just want great tasting food, fast and affordable, and that’s what you’ll get at La Isla Burrito.
If you’re in the Keeaumoku area, be sure to check out the newly opened takeout location serving up fresh, homestyle Mexican food. Located in the Sam Sung Plaza at 661 Keeaumoku St. (across from Walmart), La Isla Burrito serves up dishes like burritos, tacos, enchiladas, carnitas, and fajitas. They also offer a breakfast menu featuring chilaquiles, huevos racheros, a breakfast burrito, and huevos con papas y chorizo.
La Isla Burrito opens at 9am on weekdays and closes late on Friday and Saturday. Their hours:
You can place a phone order by calling 947-5263 (9-ISLAND).
We had the Island Chicken Burrito and the huevos con papas y chorizo, and the dishes were served quickly by the friendly staff. The Island Burrito had tender chunks of chicken with fresh salsa and the huevos con papas chorizo was downright tasty.
The location is on the smaller side so don’t expect to bring large parties, but you can always place a phone order ahead of time.
Check out Yelp for La Isla Burrito reviews and leave your own comments.
And just between you and me, the name “La Isla Burrito” reminds me of Madonna’s classic song…
“Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be”
La Isla Burrito!
