Kanye West is a mad genius! I admit that I haven’t yet watched Kanye’s latest antics at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the observed after effects are huge! There’s so much hate and controversy going on right now. Check out the latest trends on Twitter. Utmost domination by Kanye and MTV.
Didn’t know who Kanye West was before? You probably do now. Yeah, so it might be for the wrong reasons, but go ask Howard Stern if that’s necessarily a bad thing. A white, female country singer interrupted and dissed by a black rapper, oh the juxtaposition is so rich!
How many ways did this episode strike a chord? There’s the interruption itself with people calling Kanye all kinds of unflattering names.
Even his shoe designs are being disrespected. You didn’t know Kanye designed shoes for Nike and Louis Vuitton? Now you do thanks to the negatory hype. Don’t know what Kanye’s music is about? You’ll probably have to sample some songs just to know those are the songs you now hate. And, there’s now a video mashup of Kanye interrupting President Obama. Kanye mentioned in the same sentence with the President of the United States stemming from this incident?!
Not lost in this is Taylor Swift. She still is the winner of the VMA Best Female Video and now fans and new fans are rallying behind her. I don’t know her country music, but I’ll have to check out some songs. Out of sympathy, some are even buying Swift’s music. Taylor Swift will be fine.
Rap wars are all played out. But how about country versus rap battles? Now there’s a remix that might be interesting… and who would benefit from these musical fights? How about a Music Television channel?
And did you catch the latest New Moon trailer that aired during the VMAs? I’m sure all this publicity isn’t hurting the viewership of this trailer, right. Oh, the trailer is good, but all the extra emotion swirling around the VMAs just intensified the anticipation of New Moon.
So for all that transpired at the VMAs, I say again the hype and name of Kanye West just went into the stratosphere.
Here’s the controversy so you can judge for yourself.
As an Apple fan, I associated Blackberries with Windows. And with Windows, I associate these videos.
Downright scary!
Another New Moon trailer that makes the movie look, well, like a movie.
Thanks to the swooning Jessica for the find.
Is the filming of One Kine Day returning to the Kailua skate part? Saw these posted along the street this morning but didn’t get a chance to check them out closeup.
I didn’t expect Jay-Z’s latest release, Blueprint 3, to be a daily special on Amazon, but there it is. For today only, get this beat-filled masterpiece for only $3.99!
Run This Town and D.O.A (Death of Autotune) already have airplay. Empire State of Mind has an awesome chorus by Alicia Keys. I prefer the beats of Off That over On To the Next One, and the A Star is Born turns up the RPMs a bit. Reminder is just that, a reminder of who’s still on the top of his game. Young Forever has an interesting sample of Forever Young. All in all, a solid addition to your music collection.
Overnight, there was quite a bit of Twitter discussion about the history of @alohaarleen. Arleen’s a prolific tweeter (too walaau mouth for me) with 80,000 followers who crossed a few too many people here on the island. Then the past started coming out. High drama in Twitterlulu!
Norah Jones was supposed to perform at the Hawaii Writers Conference but had to cancel due to poor sales of the $100-500 tickets. The conference itself took place, just without the gala fundraiser featuring Jones.
Although Norah couldn’t perform in the Aloha state, she definitely landed on her feet this week, performing at Apple’s Special Event that featured the return of Steve Jobs.
I’m hoping her Apple appearance had nothing to do with her Hawaii cancellation.
Obviously a Mac OS X Snow Leopard can cry. Just don’t upgrade to iTunes 9 along with the accompanying music library update, gap analysis, and genius matching and update your iPhone to 3.1 and redeem an iTunes gift card and do a Time Machine backup all on a variety of drives. You too can make a Snow Leopard cry.
For the special occasion of September 9, 2009 aka 9/9/09, online shirt purveyor Threadless is selling their custom designed shirts for $9. It’s a great time to load up on some fun tees.
I placed my very first order with Threadless after seeing a few catchy designs like this pulpy one.
FYI, shipping to Hawaii for three shirts was ~$8. Also, supposedly the American Apparel-made shirts shrink less than the Threadless branded shirts.
I couldn’t believe it and had to watch for a bit as our new postal carrier went off roading to deliver mail in the neighborhood. Instead of stopping his mail truck and getting out to make his deliveries, he would drive on curbs, squeeze by brushes, and do anything so he didn’t have to get out. What a trip!
